Woman charged with after allegedly drink driving at over five times the legal limit with child in car

A woman has been charged after allegedly driving five times over the legal limit with a young child in the car in the Illawarra overnight. Police received multiple calls about a blue Holden Trax swerving across the road and mounting gutters while driving on Shellharbour Road, Warilla, at around about 5.40pm. Officers found the car on Northcliffe Drive, Warrawong, roughly an hour and a half later.

The woman allegedly failed to pull over when directed by police, sparking a pursuit. A low-speed pursuit continued for about six kilometres before the woman stopped near the intersection of Windang Road and Boronia Avenue, Windang. A five-year-old girl was found unrestrained in the front passenger seat, she was not physically harmed but was extremely distressed.

A 46-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where she allegedly returned a breath test of more than five times the legal limit — 0.263. Her driver’s licence was suspended and her car has been confiscated for three months. A child-at-risk notification was also completed.

The woman was refused bail and is due to appear at Wollongong Bail Court today. The girl is being cared for by family members.
