German police intercepts 1 Million euro’s in cash at border

During a vehicle check at the German-Dutch border, the German police found a million euros in cash in a van last Saturday. The driver was arrested.

The money was found last Saturday around 9:30 in the evening by German police officers in a 31-kilo box that was hidden among the remaining cargo. This happened after a Volkswagen Transporter with a Hungarian license plate was stopped at a border control on the A1 on the German side (Autobahn 30, near Bad Bentheim) and led to an industrial area, where she was screened.

The German police announced this. The police found the money in the bus, although the driver had answered in the negative when asked whether he was transporting weapons, drugs or money worth more than 10,000 euros.

The police have arrested the 55-year-old Hungarian driver. He will be prosecuted in connection with money laundering.

Customs in Essen has started an investigation into the origin of the money.
