Public Prosecution Service demands almost five years in prison against Somali (38) for arms trade with Martien R.

On Monday, the Public Prosecution Service demanded almost five years in prison against a 38-year-old Somali man from Berg en Dal for arms trafficking in Den Bosch. The suspect is said to have traded in weapons for almost a year with Martien R., the leader of an Osse criminal organization, which mainly consists of family members.

The Brabants Dagblad writes that, according to justice, the Somali man often came into the picture as a visitor to the caravan camp in Oss where Martien R. and family members lived. For example, Somalian M. M. could be seen on camera images that the police made in the meeting barn of the R. family and his voice was also regularly heard.

According to the judiciary, it appears from tapped conversations in ‘the office’ that the 38-year-old suspect spoke to Martien R. about Glocks (pistols) and automatic firearms (M16 and a Uzi). Dozens of weapons were found underground but also in other places in the camp.

The Public Prosecution Service states that all these weapons were intended for the criminal environment. This would appear from a taped conversation in which the Somali said that “five Glocks” would be delivered in the evening for 32,000 euros. CCTV footage showed that he was loading weapons with other men. In another overheard conversation, the man said that “his friend wanted to shoot someone” and that is why he needed a gun.

After being held for only a few days, the suspect was allowed to await his criminal case in freedom. According to himself, he only came to the trailer park in Oss to play games and chill with his friend Anton R., the 28-year-old son of Martien R.. The weapons he had seen at the camp were fake weapons. And to ‘be tough’ he talked with the ‘big boys’ about the weapons.

The Public Prosecution Service demands almost five years in prison against the Somali man. The court will rule on November 21.

Martien R. (50) was sentenced to sixteen years in prison in September 2021. According to the court, he led a criminal organization for more than a year and a half that was engaged in, among other things, drug and arms trafficking, money laundering and theft. The thirteen co-defendants and especially relatives of R. were given prison sentences ranging from one to ten years.

The appeal is pending and will be concluded in May 2023.

The criminal case against Helmonder Frank L. (47), according to justice the weapons expert of the R. family, will be deleted. L. recently ended his life. Frank L. had been at large since the summer of last year.
