Drugs worth MVR 13 million seized in Maldives

Maldives Customs have seized drugs worth MVR 13 million (USD 842,000) smuggled into the Maldives from a courier.

Customs said that 3.3 kilos of drugs were seized from two parcels brought into the Maldives this month. The first parcel contained half a kilo of MDMA and half a kilo of Mephedrone. The second parcel contained and 2.2 kilos of cocaine.

Customs said the street value of the items are MVR 12.9 million. Customs did not say whether anyone was arrested in connection to the case.

The drugs have been handed over to the police according to Customs. They said that a special technical team has been established in the Greater Male’ region to prevent the smuggling of drugs into the Maldives.
