Driver charged over fiery Sydney Harbour Bridge crash


The Toyota Kluger burst into flames after the crash.

A man has been charged over a fiery multi-vehicle crash on Sydney Harbour Bridge on Monday morning. A Toyota Kluger SUV hit two other vehicles before flipping over and bursting into flames on the bridge at 7.10am.Police allege the 19-year-old driver stole the car after assaulting the owner and taking the keys on Sussex Street in the CBD around 15 minutes before the crash.

The man was taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.The two other drivers involved in the crash – a 53-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man – were also taken to hospital, with neither having life-threatening injuries.Police charged the Kluger driver today with assault with intent to take or drive a motor vehicle and dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.

Authorities say he is originally from Queensland.He has been refused bail and will face a bedside hearing before the Central Local Court while he remains in hospital.
