Arrest in connection with weapon discovery Alphen aan den Rijn

The police have arrested a second suspect who is suspected of involvement in the large arms find in Alphen aan den Rijn on Thursday 24 March. Then an arsenal was found by the police in a barn in a residential area.

National Unit

A 29-year-old suspect from Alphen aan de Rijn was arrested on March 28. The detectives continued with the investigation and arrested a second suspect on Tuesday: a 44-year-old man from Alphen aan den Rijn.

After searching the barn, detectives from the National Criminal Investigation Service, part of the National Unit, found a large arsenal of weapons and ammunition.


Anti-tank weapons

There were 22 small arms, 22 automatic weapons, including sniper rifles and four anti-tank weapons. The weapons were wrapped in plastic and in sports bags.

Some weapons were loaded. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) arrived on the scene to secure the bazookas.

The investigation continues and, according to the police, focuses on other suspects and on people for whom the weapons were intended. The Forensic Investigation Department examines the weapons for traces and whether they have been used in violent incidents in the Netherlands.
