Police search for Melbourne sex offender who is ‘actively avoiding’ authorities

Police have appealed to the public to help find registered sex offender Russell Jones who is “actively avoiding” police in Melbourne. Victoria Police said the 40-year-old man is wanted on warrant over failing to comply with his reporting obligations. Investigators believe Mr Jones is living in the Lilydale area, in the city’s outer-east.
He is also known to frequent the Windsor, St Kilda, South Yarra and Melbourne CBD areas.Mr Jones last had contact with authorities on February 25. Investigators have released an image of the man in the hope that someone may have information on his current whereabouts.
Mr Jones is described as approximately 171cm tall, with a thin build, brown eyes and short dark, greying hair. Anyone who sights him is urged to contact Triple Zero immediately. Anyone with other information about his whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
