Two tons of cocaine seized from the Gulf clan that was to be sent to the Netherlands

On April 12, in the morning, the Attorney General’s Office announced that through the Specialized Directorate against Drug Trafficking and STI, and the work coordinated with the National Navy, the National Army and the US agency DEA, it was possible to identify and seize a truck carrying narcotics and was mobilizing through the Caribbean Trunk towards the port area of Cartagena (Bolívar).
“About two tons of cocaine that the Gulf Clan intended to send to the Netherlands were seized. The shipment was discovered at a checkpoint, in Maria La Baja, #Bolívar. He was camouflaged in a cargo vehicle carrying export-type bananas,” the accusing triune.
According to the authorities, the exact weight of the shipment was 1,950 kilograms of narcotic drugs. Evidence showed that the final destination was the city of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.
In addition, the seizure of the kilos of cocaine in the procedure was captured the driver of the car, identified as Diego Armando Rodríguez Bermudez, who will face charges of trafficking, manufacturing or carrying aggravated narcotics.
In March, the Navy carried out offensive operations against drug trafficking in the Colombian Caribbean and Pacific, through which it succeeded in the seizure of 5.4 tons of cocaine, “affecting the finances of the Organized Armed Group (GAO) Gulf Clan, with the loss of more than 188 million dollars.”
“This significant reduction in the supply of narcotics worldwide was carried out in three operations focused on denying the use of the sea as a transport route for these illegal substances, preventing the distribution of more than 13 million doses,” the institution explained.
It also noted that the results were achieved after a first operation that was carried out jointly with the Colombian Air Force and coordinated with the National Police, which allowed the interdiction of a suspicious vessel moving over the Gulf of Morrosquillo and manned by two subjects of Colombian nationality, carrying 1,606 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, 420 gallons of fuel, communications equipment and 1,758,000 Colombian pesos in cash. The alkaloid would appear to belong to the Gulf Clan.
Another operation was carried out in the Colombian Pacific, where 438 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride were seized. The proceedings were carried out in the midst of military registration and control patrols in the municipality of Bajo Baudó, Chocó. In these actions, the authorities managed to locate a suspicious vessel, without a name, which was stranded about five nautical miles above the town of Playa Nueva, which contained the alkaloid.
Some 3.4 tons of cocaine hydrochloride were also seized and transported to Central America on a “Go Fast” type vessel.
“This important result was achieved thanks to a complete synergy between aircraft of the Colombian Navy and the Colombian Air Force, supported by an air platform of the United States Southern Command; who managed to identify and follow in detail a suspicious motor ship, which was sailing in the Caribbean Sea,” said the communication from the military institution.
