Rotterdam – 5 years in prison for possession of weapons after a search

On Wednesday, the Rotterdam court sentenced a 39-year-old Rotterdammer to five years in prison for possession of weapons and arms trafficking. That is one year less than the prosecutor demanded two weeks ago. The man was seriously confronted by a preventive search by the police in September 2021 in Rotterdam.

The search took place in a cafe on the Groene Hilledijk in South Rotterdam, where the police often do this type of action. The 39-year-old Rotterdammer was present in the cafe. He was found to be in possession of a weapon and was arrested for possession of a firearm.

During the subsequent search of his home, officers found, among other things, mufflers, ammunition, jammers, telephones, a bullet-proof vest and records containing information that appeared to indicate arms trade. But it didn’t end there.

Weaponry

The arrest prompted the police to conduct a follow-up investigation into arms trafficking.

After an extensive investigation, the police raided twelve locations in Rotterdam, The Hague, Dordrecht, Papendrecht, Bergen op Zoom, Halsteren and Yerseke at the end of November. The result was a complete arsenal: automatic firearms, revolvers, rifles, multiple 3D printers with which firearm parts were printed, various parts of firearms, electroshock weapons, ammunition and a firing mechanism for explosives.

Female The man has had previous convictions for gun charges and long prison terms. In addition to the 39-year-old suspect, three other co-defendants were on trial. A 28-year-old man from Barendrecht has been convicted of possessing an automatic firearm and indistinguishable imitations of firearms: 12 months in prison. A self-recorded video showed how he and the 39-year-old man fired the weapon.

A 44-year-old woman has been convicted of co-committing arms trafficking, she has been sentenced to four months in prison, which has already been served in pre-trial detention. A 40-year-old resident of The Hague has been convicted of co-perpetrating the sale of a double-barreled hunting rifle: five months in prison.
