Man in his 20s arrested following alleged sexual assault in Melbourne’s north

A 20-year-old man has been arrested following an alleged sexual assault in Melbourne’s northern suburbs yesterday. Police say the woman was followed by an unknown man into a premises on Railway Crescent in Broadmeadows shortly after midnight on Monday. It’s alleged the man sexually assaulted her as well as seriously physically assaulting her.

The man then left the house and the woman attended the nearby Broadmeadows Police Station shortly afterwards to report the matter. The victim was then taken to hospital for treatment. The 20-year-old man, of no fixed place of address, was arrested shortly after 3pm in Meadow Heights today.

At this stage the exact circumstances of the incident are still being determined and detectives have been at the crime scene throughout today.Police will now interview the man arrested.
