We were tricked into letting our new ‘friend’ stay the night with our kids at home – but he was a PAEDOPHILE

Stefan Foy, 29, from Biddulph Moor, failed to disclose his vulgar past to the parents before sleeping over at their house in Stoke-On-Trent several times.

A COUPLE felt tricked after finding out a man they let stay at their family home with their three kids was a paedophile.

After being caught with indecent images of children, Foy was handed a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) in 2017.

It directed him to tell police if he was spending time in a household with minors and banned him from deleting internet history from his phone.

Yet Foy had multiple stays at the couple’s house while their three children were home – and attempted to wipe his data after using dating app Grindr, Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard.

Police made a surprise visit to Foy’s address on January 11 for a risk assessment, Stoke Sentinel reported.

Prosecutor Olivia Whitworth said: “He told them he had become friends with a couple in the Stoke-on-Trent area. “He said they had no children and were unaware of his previous convictions. They asked if he had contact with children and he said ‘no’.

“They inspected his phone – there was a Facebook friend pictured with three young children.

“They became concerned and proceeded to look through the phone further and questioned him further. He became nervous. He said he had met the children from a distance. He was arrested.”

He was not unsupervised with the kids and claimed to met the parents through his new boyfriend.

They felt “sick” and “betrayed” after learning of Foy’s past, the court heard.

Foy waived the right to representation in court, but said: “I didn’t think about what I was doing at the time.

“I got carried away with the situation. It all got to me over Christmas. By the time I could do anything about it, it was too late.”

Judge David Fletcher acknowledged this was Foy’s first breach but although he accepted responsibility for it, his actions were outside of his SHPO.

Foy was given an 18-month community order with 55 rehabilitation activity requirement days and 100 hours unpaid work.

He must also pay £340 costs.
