Public Prosecution Service suspects 15 and 17-year-olds of murder

The Public Prosecution Service suspects a 15-year-old boy from Steenbergen and a just 17-year-old boy from Rilland of murder in association. The victim was 15-year-old Tim from Middelburg, who was found seriously injured on Sunday 9 January 2022 with multiple stab wounds at a flat in the Middelburg district of Dauwendaele. He died in hospital three days later.

On January 12, three days after the stabbing incident, the two suspects were arrested in a house in Dauwendaele. They have been in pre-trial detention since their arraignment to the examining magistrate on January 14. The oldest suspect was 16 years old at the time.

Thursday was the first pro forma hearing in which the court in Middelburg extended the pre-trial detention of the suspects. Because the suspects are minors, the hearing was held behind closed doors.

The next pro forma court hearing is scheduled for June 21, 2022.
