Project Lancia leads to $4.45M in drugs seized, more than 20 arrests


More than 20 people face charges and $4.45 million in controlled substances have been seized as part of a six-month joint police investigation targeting a drug trafficking network.

Durham Regional Police led the probe in partnership with the Peterborough Police Service, Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Brantford Police Service, with support from Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario.

Multiple search warrants were executed as part of Project Lancia, which closed in on an illegal drug operation throughout the province involved in the distribution of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and illicit cannabis products.

Two dozen search warrants were executed on Friday, April 29 by Durham, Peterborough, the OPP and Sault Ste. Marie police, in locations in Peterborough, Toronto, Ancaster, Woodbridge, Caledonia and Sault Ste. Marie.

In total, 31 search warrants were executed during Project Lancia, resulting in the arrests of 23 people and 145 drug and firearm charges being laid. Aside from about $4.45 million in drugs and nine firearms seized, $226,000 in cash were seized along with five vehicles as offence-related property.
