Perth man left bloodied and bruised after assault in his own backyard

Two men are recovering after a violent rampage at a house in Perth’s eastern suburbs. Police said three suspects burgled a home in Beckenham and assaulted a man in his 20s and his roommate. Afghani refugee Azizullah Noori says he is devastated that even after leaving Afghanistan he is still experiencing such violence.

“I ran from my country. I ran from the terrorists. I ran from the Taliban. I want a relaxed life. I don’t come for the fight, for the war,” Mr Noori told 9News. The young man was left bloodied and bruised by the attack. CCTV footage captured the moment the hooded and masked men come through the side gate of Mr Noori’s property.

The gang kicked down doors and beat Mr Noori and his roommate with poles before making a run for it with stolen items. Mr Noori was smashed in the head and dragged by his hair. “They bash me from the back,” Mr Noori said. State crime statistics indicate assaults are rising in Beckenham.

In 2017 there were 22 in the suburb. In 2019 that number increased slightly to 29 and in 2021 it climbed to 46.Mr Noori’s landlord, Gaurav Kalie, said his tenant’s tale was a frighteningly familiar one.

“I can’t go to bed because every single time things happen,” Mr Kalie said.

“We don’t feel safe anymore in this house or in this area,”
