Man gunned down near child’s birthday party in Western Sydney

A man has been shot outside a home in Sydney’s west, forcing a terrified family to run for cover in the middle of their little girl’s birthday party. The party in Bletchley Place, Hebersham, was punctuated by gunshots and screaming about 2.30pm today. Police shut down the street as a manhunt unfolded.
The birthday party was interrupted by flying bullets in events captured on a surveillance camera. Damien, the girl’s father, got everyone inside before going to see what was happening.
“I heard the first two shots,” he told 9News. “I jumped up on the fence to see what was going on and I seen someone leaning out of the window with a shotgun and firing at the guy laying on the ground.”
“He had holes all through him.”
NSW Police Inspector Kevin McSweeney said the man was taken to hospital in a serious condition. The 39-year-old victim is in surgery. Police believe it was a targeted attack, with the gunman still on the run.
