Man fined $3000 for driving offences captured during police escape attempt

Queensland police have fined a man over a series of driving offences after capturing him riding dangerously on his motorbike and then crashing in front of officers.Police had been conducting speed checks in Mackay, central Queensland, on February 17 when the driver, riding at 122km/h in a 50km/h zone, swerved past.The driver was later intercepted by police, before driving off and crashing directly in front of the officers.

“It is alleged around 7.50pm as an officer was out of the police vehicle speaking with the rider, the man drove away,” police said, in a statement.”It is further alleged the rider lost control of the motorbike and crashed a short distance from where he was intercepted.”Police vision captured the incident.

The officers ran to assist the man, who was transported to Mackay Base Hospital for treatment. He was fined for speeding, evading police, driving without care and not having proper control of his vehicle.The fines totalled almost $3000.”The decisions we make when we are in control of any vehicle will always have a consequence, for yourself or others,” Sergeant Nigel Dalton from the Mackay Crime Prevention Unit said.
