A gangland figure, charged over his alleged involvement in a failed murder plot at a Sydney gym, has faced court.

Gangland figure Ibrahem Hamze has faced court after he was extradited from Queensland to NSWover an alleged public place shooting at a western Sydney gym.

Mr Hamze was charged over his alleged role in a kidnapping, large commercial drug supply operation and an attempted shooting murder at a gym which involved bullets narrowly missed children.

Police arrested Ibrahem Hamze, the cousin of jailed Brothers for Life gang leader Bassam Hamzy, on the Gold Coast on Monday and the 27-year-old was flown to Sydney on Tuesday after a magistrate granted his extradition.

Mr Hamze was later charged with two counts of solicit, encourage, persuade to murder, four counts of shoot at with intent to murder, fire firearm in public place, acquire pistol subject to firearms prohibition order, three counts of supply prohibited firearm to unauthorised person and a string of other alleged offences related to a daylight shooting at Prospect gym in Sydney’s west on November 29, 2021.

He appeared in Parramatta Bail Court on Wednesday, appearing via videolink wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts he was wearing when he was flown from Queensland.

His lawyer Fadi Abbas did not make a release application and Mr Hamze was formally refused bail.

Multiple shots were fired during the alleged targeted attack, which saw a man shot in the leg outside the World Gym and bullets fired into a creche attached to the gym where children were playing with carers.

Officers also revealed Mr Hamze was hit with another charge related to his alleged involvement in the kidnapping and assault of a 24-year-old man in Sydney on September 18, 2021.

Police will allege Mr Hamze was one of five men who assaulted the man and forced him into the rear of a white Toyota Hiace van at Merrylands.

During the incident a black Toyota SUV entered the street and was struck by one of the men holding an expendable baton.

The Toyota driver reportedly reversed through the street, crashed into a boat and fled the scene.

Police say the alleged kidnapping victim was detained for three hours in a vacant unit at Auburn, before he was later found by a member of the public walking along Wellington Road at Birrong with a stab wound to the shoulder.

Mr Hamze and six other men have been charged over the alleged kidnapping.

Haissam Hamzy, 27, and Tareek Hamzy, 24, and Bilal El-Chamy, 21, and Ahmad El-Chamy, 27, have also been charged with take/detain in company with intent to get advantage occasioning actual bodily harm.

They appeared in Parramatta Bail Court on Wednesday but did not make a release application.

In addition to the kidnapping related charge of take/detain in company with intent to get advantage occasion actual bodily harm, Mr Hamze was further charged with two counts of knowingly direct activities of a criminal group and two counts of large commercial drug supply.

Mr Hamze’s arrest is the latest to be made as part of an ongoing police investigation into the warring Hamazy and Alameddine families in Sydney’s southwest.
