Drugs worth €93,000 disguised as ‘children’s toys’ seized in Athlone


The drugs were destined for an address in Dublin.

Revenue officers have seized drugs worth €93,000 disguised as ‘children’s toys’ seized in Athlone on Thursday.

During routine profiling, officers examining parcels seized almost 2.8kgs of ecstasy.

The drugs were discovered in parcels labelled as ‘children’s toys’ that originated in the Netherlands and were destined for an address in Dublin.

In another Revenue seizure on Thursday March 3rd, officers discovered smuggled alcohol with a retail value of more than €55,000.

Approximately 13,000 litres of beer, 225 litres of Asti Martina and 7 litres of Polish Mead at Rosslare Europort, following the search of an Irish registered truck that had disembarked from a ferry from Dunkirk, France.

In a statement a Revenue spokesperson said: “These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the smuggling of illegal goods.
