DNCD seizes 1,200 kilograms of cocaine


The drug was found in the back of a van.

The National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) reported yesterday that 1,200 kilograms of a substance presumably cocaine was seized in a container loaded with bananas, during an operation carried out in the Caucedo Multimodal Port, Boca Chica municipality.

According to a statement, DNCD agents, military personnel and canine units outlined several containers that arrived in the country through the port, coming from Guatemala and with their final destination, Belgium.

The authorities proceeded to open one of the vans, where they occupied 48 bags inside, containing 25 blocks each, for a total of 1,200 packages of the substance.

The DNCD details that during this operation where dozens of vans were profiled and after several hours of intense search, with high-tech equipment, it was possible to discover the substance in one of them and thwart the shipment of the drug.

The anti-narcotics institution stated that in coordination with the Public Ministry and with international aid they have opened an investigation to arrest and bring to justice those involved in this international drug trafficking network.

In that sense, he indicated that they keep active the search for individuals involved in this criminal structure.

The DNCD highlighted that this is one of the most important shipments occupied in the Caucedo Multimodal Port during this management and the one with the highest volume seized during the last six years.

The entity assured that together with the other pertinent authorities, interdiction operations against drug trafficking and its related crimes continue in airport and port terminals, borders, as well as throughout the national territory.

The 1,200 kilograms were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif).
